Hiking the A.T. : My Journey Through Appalachian Tweets And Other Interwebs

NFL training camps open this week, so I thought it would be a good time to check on the 11 former players Appalachian was expecting to be in attendance.  We will start with the most disappointing news.

Will Corbin (@TruCorbin64), Guard, Indianapolis Colts – Stampedeblue.com announced that Corbin has been released.  For cap reasons the Colts released Gosder Cherilus, and that led them to release Corbin, who they must have viewed as a ,in order to add another tackle to the roster, Matt Hall. Hall, like Corbin went undrafted, but he has a year under his belt, despite the fact that year was on the injured list.  Hopefully, Will can find a spot on another team.

Kendall Lamm (@Big_Daddy_K74), Tackle, Houston Texans – Corbin’s opposite tackle last season, for the Mountaineers,  was picked up by the Houston Texans.  Below is a NFL.com pre draft analysis of Lamm.

Daniel Kilgore (@DanielKilgore67), Center, San Francisco 49ers – Kilgore’s fractured leg is still limiting him for the time being.

Travaris Cadet, Running Back (@TravarisCadet39), New England Patriots – Cadet appears to be leading a tight race for Brady’s passing back option (the role filled by Shane Vereen last year), and Blount coming in out of shape can’t hurt.  Some are even calling him a fantasy football sleeper.

Brian Quick, Wide Receiver (@BQuick_SC), St. Louis Rams – Quick is still recovering from his major shoulder injury last season, but reportedly things are going well, and he has the ability to be the Rams #1 receiver this campaign.

De’Andre Presley (@PresleyDeAndre) – The Panthers like Presley’s athleticism, but he has an uphill climb learning the position in what has become a crowded group of receivers.  Although, news of Stephen Hill being caught with drug paraphernalia in Concord, yesterday can’t hurt his case.

Andrew Peacock (@AC_Peacock11), Wide Receiver, Detroit Lions – The Detroit News recently discussed how Peacock was constantly making plays in practice last year, hopefully that can be parlayed into a roster spot this season.

Tony Washington (@Tony_TDUB), Wide Receiver, Jacksonville Jaguars – Carpe Diem, Washington knows he’s going to have to give his all to make the final roster in Jacksonville.

Demetrius McCray (@mccrayd_10), Cornerback, Jacksonville Jaguars – The second year defensive back took over the starting role last year and has a good chance to start this year according to the Florida Times Union.  First is an article from last November followed by a more recent interview with Jaguar.com.

Joel Ross (@JamRockRoSS_26), Cornerback, Dallas Cowboys – Ross is ready to take on the challenge in Dallas.

Sam Martin (@SamMartin_6), Kicker, Detroit Lions – Martin is trying to put last season’s playoff loss behind him and move onto a new season.

Today I gave my curve ball for Appalachian State.  Join me again on Friday when I put my spin on the best players on the Appalachian State football slate for the upcoming year.
